Livelihood Resource Centre Network (LRCN)

LRCN is an initiative of Orissa Watershed Development Mission (OWDM) supported by DFID under the Western Orissa Rural Livelihoods Project (WORLP). It is a network of field NGOs, Resource Organizations (ROs), Resource Persons (RPs) from different disciplines, Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) and OWDM

Empowering village communities to improve their quality of life.

 

Purpose of LRCN

The purpose of LRCN is to institutionalise and sustain the capacity building processes for the primary stakeholders (communities).

 

Area of Operation

Four Districts in Western Orissa – Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nuapada & Bargarh

 

Strategies

·         Working through the project implementing agencies (PIAs)

·         Building on the existing capacities, resources and experiences

·         Providing need based, focused and consistent capacity building inputs in a systematic manner

·         Capacity building interventions beyond trainings i.e. information resource centres, demonstrations, exposures etc

·         Advocacy for mainstreaming capacity building

OrissaWatershedDevelopment Mission (OWDM)

OWDM is a registered society responsible for planning, monitoring, supervising and implementing all watershed programmes with a special focus on creating an enabling environment for the State to initiate people –centred livelihoods based watershed projects. It is headed by the Director Watershed Mission supported by a team of Professional experts.  

Coordination and Facilitation Unit (CFU)

The CFU provides managerial and technical support to the network partners in LRCN. It is a part of the WORLP Management Consultants. It consists of two specialists –   Technical Coordinator and Social & Gender Coordinator. The CFU works in close coordination with the Project Support Unit (PSU), WORLP to oversee and guide the functioning of LRCN.

Resource Organisations (RO)

Several institutions and individuals of repute and experienced in different sectors are associated with LRCN. They provide technical guidance and support in development of certified training kits  and monitor the training quality.

Orissa University of Agriculture Technology(OUAT), Centre for Youth and Social Development(CYSD), Society for Management of Information, Learning & Extension (SMILE), Xavier Institute of Management(XIM), Central Institute for Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA), Water Technology Centre for Eastern Region (WTCER) and Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI)   act as some of the Resource Organisations. 

Cluster Livelihood Resource Centres (CLRC)

CLRCs are anchored by well established organisations that are located close to the communities. Currently there are six CLRCs covering over 200 villages. Each CLRC is managed by a dedicated team of professionals.

Pool of Resource Persons (PRPs)

The CLRCs deliver training programmes directly to the village communities through a pool of resource persons.

Over 250 qualified PRPs specialised in a range of subjects such as agriculture, soil and water conservation, livestock, right to information, micro-enterprises, community health, aquaculture and community organisation are part of the resource pool.

In addition CLRC functions as resource centre supporting information dissemination, documentation, report writing, project appraisal and undertaking monitoring & evaluation.
